DC-3 “Odyssey ’86”
2026 marks the 40th anniversary of one of the most iconic celebrations in British Columbia history: Expo ‘86. For many across the province, Expo ’86 represented a bold moment of innovation, optimism, and international attention. It was also a milestone year for the Abbotsford International Airshow, which proudly participated in the festivities and welcomed one of the event’s most recognizable aircraft: the legendary Odyssey DC-3.
The historic Odyssey DC-3, beautifully preserved and operated by KF Aerospace in Kelowna, will its long-awaited return to Abbotsford for both flying demonstrations and static display appearances, marking its first appearance at the event since 1986. The aircraft – now dubbed “The Spirit of Vancouver” – has been repainted in its vibrant colours from Expo ’86.
The Odyssey DC-3 became an instantly recognizable symbol of the era. The aircraft toured extensively during the World Exposition celebrations and captured the imagination of aviation enthusiasts and families alike with its striking livery and classic Douglas airliner lines. For many British Columbians, it remains a powerful reminder of the excitement and pride surrounding Expo ’86. Its return to Abbotsford offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with that history.
As the Abbotsford International Airshow celebrates the 40th anniversary of Expo ’86, the return of the Odyssey DC-3 serves as a fitting tribute to British Columbia’s rich aviation heritage and the enduring connection between the Airshow and landmark moments in Canadian history.
