RCAF CC-295 Kingfisher (SAT Only)

The Royal Canadian Air Force’s CC-295 Kingfisher will make special flybys on Saturday at the 2026 Abbotsford International Airshow, giving fans the opportunity to see Canada’s newest fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft in flight.

Purpose-built for Canada’s demanding search and rescue mission, the CC-295 Kingfisher represents the next generation of SAR capability for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Designed to operate over vast coastlines, rugged mountains, remote wilderness, and open ocean, the aircraft combines exceptional endurance with advanced sensors and mission systems to locate and assist people in distress—often in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.

Canada’s New Search and Rescue Aircraft

The Kingfisher is replacing the venerable CC-115 Buffalo and older-model CC-130H Hercules aircraft that have served Canada’s search and rescue mission for decades. Based on the Airbus C295 platform, the aircraft features a modern glass cockpit, powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engines, and sophisticated radar and electro-optical sensors that enable crews to search large areas quickly and effectively.

The aircraft is crewed by highly trained Royal Canadian Air Force pilots, search and rescue technicians, and mission specialists who stand ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

A Vital Mission

Whether responding to missing hikers, downed aircraft, stranded mariners, or communities affected by natural disasters, the CC-295 Kingfisher plays a critical role in saving lives across one of the largest search and rescue regions in the world. Its ability to fly long distances, operate from shorter runways, and deploy rescue equipment makes it an invaluable asset for Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

Special Saturday Flybys

While the Kingfisher will not be on static display, visitors will have the opportunity to watch this impressive aircraft perform several special flybys on Saturday, offering a rare chance to see the Royal Canadian Air Force’s newest search and rescue aircraft in action over Abbotsford.

Be sure to look to the skies and experience one of Canada’s most important aircraft as it demonstrates the capability and professionalism of the crews dedicated to protecting Canadians every day.
