Summer Camps 2022: Camp One

Theme:  Introduction to the “Physics of Flight” – Digital Design – Fabrication – Coding
Description: In this innovative hands-on summer camp, participants will learn about the physics of flight while building their own foam board glider.  In addition, students will learn how to digitally design and fabricate their own foam board glider.  This camp will be in person (not virtual).
Course Dates: Tuesday to Friday, August 2, 3, 4, 5 – 24 hours of STEM fun!
Day and Time: 9am to 3pm (6 hours per day)
Ages: 9+
Cost: $300 +tax
Instructor: Mr. Dereck Dirom and Mr. Rich Whitman
Note: Lunch is not provided – students need to bring peanut-free snacks/lunch suitable for a summer day camp – refillable water bottle recommended.
Unique Features:

  • Introduction to the physics of flight – ground school concepts
  • Design and make a foam board glider to take home at the end of the camp
  • Learn digital fabrication skills using InkScape and a TroTec laser cutter (special thanks to TroTec Canada for supplying the laser cutter for our camp)
  • Program a TelloEDU drone using Python
  • During the 4 days of the camp, participants will get to tour the following: NAV Canada (control tower), Abbotsford Airport Operations, and various aerospace companies at the airport – tour schedule TBD.
  • Special access to the Abbotsford International Airshow performers and VIPs – performers and VIPs TBD.
  • All materials for the camp are covered in the camp fee
